WAW Handplanes are making waves in the bodysurfing arena. Popular among wave enthusiasts, handplanes are lightweight “mini surfboards” that attach to your hand and let you ride the wave with ease.
WAW’s BadFish is the only handplane made without any virgin plastic materials - perfect for ocean-lovers who want to catch more waves with less waste. Each handplane is constructed from 1/3 recycled ocean plastics collected from the Great Barrier Reef and 2/3 material from household recycling bins.
How does it work? The ocean plastics are collected by the legends at Eco Barge Clean Seas, before being hand-sorted and hand-washed, then shredded courtesy of the Plastic Collective. After this, the shredded material is deconstructed by the team at REPLAS, then mixed with waste from domestic recycling bins (think plastic bags, bottle caps, and takeaway containers). Finally, it’s shaped into a sleek and ergonomic design that lets you catch the finest waves.
Each handplane is then finished with straps by the guys at Yulex, which is made of 100% bio plant-based rubber, recycled polyester and solvent-free glues, and fully certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and The Rainforest Alliance.
